I will join Google as a summer intern starting from June 19, 2012.
On Oct 16, 2011, in Yahoo HackU 2011 UCLA, our project MotionPoster won the second prize. Our team member include Bin Bi, Dong Wang, Yuchen Liu and me. We are all PhD students at UCLA.
I worked as a research intern in eBay Rsearch Lab in Shanghai from Jun 2011 to Sep 2011.
I mentored the summer visiting student Jiacheng Yang on developing the new version of PathMining and improved other components of PhenoMining during the CSST summer program from July 2011 to Sep 2011. I am also an alumni of this program.
In the summer of 2011, I married my dearest wife Yi Zhu(朱薏) in my hometwon Shanghai, China. From then on, I have become a complete man with an adorable family. It was the most important and happiest moment in my life.
Research
Research Interests
My primary research interests are in data mining, information retrieval and bioinformatics. I believe that mining knowledge from data and managing them in a proper way is one of the most fundamental problems in this information age and I am enthusiastic about all the challenge and opportunities in this field.
PhenoMining 2009.7-2009.9, 2010.9-now
My first project at UCLA is PhenoMining, an advanced text mining tool for neuroscience research. This project is part of CNP project. We mine the knowledge from literature to eanble resarchers to inspect the knowledge of different aspects such as syndrome, symptoms, cognitive concepts, experiemnts/task, neuroanatonomy and genes, and the relations between them. Our tool makes the complicated knowledge system searchable and facilitates researchers to discover the association between different fields within the knowledge system.

I worked as a research intern in eBay Rsearch Lab in Shanghai. I worked with Dan Shen on site log analysis and mining.

I worked as a software design engineer in test intern in Microsoft STB China. I woked with ADX team on WCF and WF tools for Visual Studio 2010.
Personal Interests
Besides computer science research and building softwares, I am interested in art, especially in music. I play acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass guitar in my leisure time. I once played in a band named "kelp" at Fudan University.
I am fan of various types of music. I love the emotional music such as Blues, Jazz, and Fusion Jazz with favourite artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Pat Metheny, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. I also love rock music, especially british bands such as Suede , Radiohead and, of course, the Batles. My favourite classical musician is Hector Berlioz.
I also enjoy watching movies, especially European movies. My favourite director is Wim Wenders. His movie Paris, Texas is my all-time favourite.
